I am one of those people who actually cringes at the idea of my makeup being over the ten dollar mark. Call me gross. Call me cheap. Call me whatever you want, I can’t do it unless it’s something really really cute like a TooFaced palette or something like that. But for everyday makeup like my mascara, foundation, concealer and blush, I am NOT going over that ten dollar price. Sorry. Not happening. Not the way I burn through my makeup.
So I went out one day with no makeup on whatsoever, and forgot my makeup bag. I was going to go into a store to pick up a job application and before I went into the store, I looked in my little mirror in my car and realized that I did not look as good as I thought I did when I left my house. My acne was really red looking, which it hadn’t looked before I went outside, and my dark circles were showing. I looked gross. I had a mascara in my car’s center console but no concealer. So I made a stop off at Walmart. They have never done me dirty as far as my makeup goes…well…pricewise. I’ve picked some makeup that is good, but it makes me breakout, but that’s my fault, not Walmarts.
So I went in, went to the makeup aisle and started browsing for an inexpensive option to get me through my day. I was ready to pick up some foundation from Maybelline when a tube of Rimmel London Stay Matte foundation caught my eye.
I haven’t heard much of this brand lately. It was my go-to for a good black eyeliner pencil when I was in high school and I then ignored the entire brand after I hit 19 or so. Go figure. So there was this foundation. A 1 ounce tube of mousse foundation for $4.
FOUR DOLLARS. My 1 ounce tube of Maybelline 24 Hr Stay Foundation cost me over ten dollars and made me break out like an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico.
I grabbed it and bought it and got to my car and put some on my face.
It’s a great full coverage foundation. I was so impressed. I couldn’t wait to get it home and try to put it on with something besides my hands.
So I got home a few hours later and was pleased to see that this foundation had not left my face in any really visible way. It wasn’t cracked or creasing. It was still there and looked pretty oil free. There were also no new pimples forming underneath of it.
I was so happy.
I’ve been using this for a week now, and my acne has not gotten worse. It’s pretty much stayed the same, so I’m not going to blame this makeup for that. I certainly can say it hasn’t caused any new breakouts, so that’s great.
I do find it easiest to apply this with a thick, flat kabuki foundation brush instead of a beauty blender. The beauty blender just kind of smudges it around and doesn’t lay it down onto my skin very well.
For the price point, I give this foundation a 10 for coverage, a 10 for being a good matching pale color, and a 9 for easy application (its getting a 9 because I can’t use a beauty blender to put it on easily.) It also gets a 10 for it’s price.
All in all, I find this foundation to be a really great value for the price and I will definitely be repurchasing again.
Until Next Time
